Plans, organizes and implements specific treatment programs for individual patients according to the principles and practices of physical therapy. Collaborates with interdisciplinary treatment team. Supervises work of support personnel.
 
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:




 

Evaluates and assesses the patient’s abilities and limitations.


 

Establishes plan of treatment and goals with patient based on the referral and evaluation of functional skills; joint mobility; gait; muscle strength, tone, and coordination; sensation tests; and other measures to ensure rapid patient recovery.  Plan for discharge is included in initial evaluation and are discussed and coordinated with the patient and physician.


 

Implements therapy or supervises therapy provided by LPTA, PT Aide, or PT Student according to the established plan, utilizing appropriate procedures, equipment and techniques within the scope of physical therapy.


 

Educates patient, family, or caregiver about goals of the program, methods to accomplish goals, home exercises/activities, and injury prevention.


 

Provides appropriate treatment documentation.


 

Re-evaluates patients, assesses their progress and makes recommendations regarding discharge.

Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills:

Incumbents in this position must maintain a current knowledge of safety issues needed in the treatment of patients, especially regarding body substance precautions and body mechanics to protect self, patients, and personnel working with therapists.  The incumbent must abide by the ethical guidelines as outlined by the American Physical Therapy Association.  Ability to prioritize, organize, and use time management skills, problem solve, and productive communication.  Must possess a high degree of precision and accuracy.  Good written and oral English communication skills; excellent interpersonal skills.

Education and Experience:

Doctoral degree in Physical Therapy from an APTA accredited school of Physical Therapy.
 




Licensure:
